Woodstock Community Church

October 2011

TSW completed architectural design for the new worship center for Woodstock Community Church about a mile north of the historic downtown in early 2011. The church’s design is Contextual Modernism, which embraces contemporary shapes while evoking the surrounding rural woodland character. The 19,000 square foot building includes a 300-seat sanctuary, 12 classrooms, and a green parking lot built with fully permeable gravel to allow rainwater to pass through.

“This is a dynamic and growing congregation, so the new facility had to have the flexibility to accommodate future growth,” said Jerry Spangler, Founding Principal of TSW.  “Unlike some current trends in church design where sanctuaries are built like movie theaters with few windows, Woodstock Community Church features a sanctuary and gathering spaces with numerous windows to bring in natural daylight.”
