Green Street Properties' Charles Brewer has been voted "Best
Real Estate Developer" in Creative
Loafing's annual Best
Of Atlanta awards. Brewer was named the favorite by CL judges
and was also the "Reader's Choice" winner. TSW's Glenwood
Park work was cited in the award description.
Is this a joke? After all, developers give us sprawl, traffic
and corrupt land-use schemes cooked up with their crony politicians.
But Atlanta does have several real estate good guys, CHARLES
BREWER chief among them. Brewer is using the fortune he earned
after founding MindSpring to build a 28-acre development sandwiched
between Grant Park and East Atlanta. Unlike the typical cookie-cutter
subdivision, Glenwood Park will be a mixed-income, mixed-use,
pedestrian-friendly community -- a beacon for new urbanism movement,
complete with a storm water retention pond and energy-saving
homes.
